Hi from Durban, South Africa

Had many different 35mm film cameras and with over 1000 photos and slides kinda ran out of space - digital changed all that and I bought an Oly 5060 which I have used for years with great results. Never bought a DSLR cos they were way to big and expensive.

For me the camera is simply a tool (you can get a brilliant pic from any cam/any brand) and the Pentax K10D is damn fine at a brilliant price and the kit lens is a cracker.

Not without its quirks tho, just like most cameras.

Here in SA you will hardly see Pentax - its all Nikon and Canon

Welcome to the forum. You'll find just about everyone here is very helpful. I look forward to see photos of your beautiful country. If you can, I'd love to see the lighthouse on the Durban beach. It brings back great memories.

Welcome! I lived in South Africa for 6 1/2 years (between Johannesburg and Pretoria). I never made it to Durban, but did visit the Midlands and Pietermaritzburg). There are so many beautiful sites to put your K10D on there!

Note: Back in around 2001, I brought someone a Pentax ISTD from the US (along with 2 Cannons for two other people) - so there are at least of you in the country shooting Pentax!

Hi Oldschool

The lighthouse in question (I assume) is at Umhlanga Rocks and is still there - although a lot of property has been built on that stretch of beachfront now - when I'm out there will take some pics
