Hello from Ontario, Canada

Hello.
After using a Canon S3 IS for years. ( I wore one out and bought another), I've contemplated an entry level DSLR for quite some time.
After reading about every camera time and time again, I finally decided on a K30.
I'm still not certain I made the right decision. I used the S3 in manual mode consistently and became quite familiar with it and how to use it.
It also had an incredible optical zoom and a teleconverter that allowed for excellent shots at a distance. Lunars, for instance.
I'm very limited with the 18-55 kit lens and miss the ability I had with the S3.
However, in time, and with a lot more money for lenses, I'm sure that I'll conquer the DSLR learning curve eventually.
As a long time member of a Canon community, I look forward to the help and advice here, as a new Pentax owner.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum Hydnum from a fellow Ontarian. I too bought a K-30 recently but have been a Pentax user since 1979 (film SLRs). Make sure you check out the dedicated K-30 sub-forum and post up some shots when you get a chance. One of the nice things about Pentax cameras is the fact that you can still use legacy glass (even the old M42 screw mount lenses via an adapter) so lots of additional lenses can be found for not much money if you shop around.

Welcome, as long time photographer you will figure it all out fairly quickly, the theory is the same, just the tools are slightly different.
