New from Arkansas.

Hey everyone! I'm new to these forums, I recently purchased a Pentax K5, then a week or two later I bought my DA 18-135 f/3.5-5.6 lens (which I love, despite people seeming to hate it). My story is fairly simple, I found an old SLR in a flea market around November last year, it was a Canon EX Auto, and I got it for just $6! Worked great too, except it just broke a few days ago. I had no idea how to work a manual film SLR at the time, I just kinda guessed, and surprisingly my first few pictures weren't too bad so I thought, hey, this is pretty cool! I eventually bought a Pentax K1000 in May and had my sights set out for a K5 II in the future. Well, I enjoyed the K1000, it shot GREAT shots during a 50 mile canoe trip I went on, also did well during summer camp, so I figured I should invest in a DSLR. 7 or 8 months before now, I knew nothing about cameras. Nothing. I learned a lot, and now I have a K5, I figured the K5II wasn't really worth the extra money for my usage. I have to say, I love this camera, I enjoy using hyper-manual mode the most because of the control it gives me. I'm only 16, but I'm certainly enjoying this!

Welcome. Not sure who `hates` the 18-135, it is well regarded here. Not a pro lens by any means but more than good for general use.

Welcome to the forums! The 18-135 got some bad rep from Photozone, but few seem to agree with them. People here on the forums get great results.

And the K-5 is a wonderful machine

Welcome to the club!!!

And congratulations on your K 5 which indeed is a first-rate camera.

The 18-135mm WR lens is NOT bad at all. I bought it a week ago with the K 5 II and really do like the images I made.

Good luck and take care!
