Greetings from Omaha

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking for a while, trying to decide if I wanted to make the switch from a Canon Rebel XS. Well I took the plunge and bought a K-30 with the 18-55WR lens from Hunts. I saw the deals on the 50mm 1.8 and 35mm 2.4 on pentaxwebstore.com and actually bought both. That was the tipping point for me since I was thinking I needed a wider prime but like brighter 1.8. Unfortunately, I might not get them judging from the responses people have been receiving. Oh well we'll see. I haven't gotten a cancellation and I had sent them a message asking to split my order, since the 35mm was backordered and the 50mm wasn't. All they said was they don't split orders, nothing else. So my order status is backordered now. Regardless, my K-30 comes on the 20th according to UPS. So I can enjoy that at least.

Thanks to all the members in this forum and if any of you frequent dpreview, thanks there too. The wealth of knowledge you have provided made it much easier to make the switch.

Welcome! I think you will find both the 35 and the 50 to be excellent. For me 35 is a better focal length, but they are equally good in quality IMO.

Whichever way, enjoy your new camera, and do download the manual so you can get a head start on the technicalities

That's an excellent idea. I'm chomping at the bit to try it out, checking out the manual ahead of time will help with the learning curve of a new system.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. This seems like a great community to join.

Thanks. I will try to post some pictures when I get settled into my new shooting habits. With my Canon I used the 50mm 90% of the time because of it's low light capabilities and the better bokeh than the kit lens. I'm really looking forward to a wider field of view with the 35mm. I don't think I've heard anyone say the 35/2.4 isn't great. It makes me even more excited to try it out.
