Short Introduction

Hello everyone!

My name is Lea, and I am a new Pentax owner! My older brother passed his older K-r body and a FA 50mm prime that has surely seen some better days. Hopefully I can figure my way around these forums soon enough; they seem to be such a great source for information.

Welcome lea, I hope you enjoy your time here. An FA 50 is a good lens to start with... be sure and post some pictures in "post your photos" so we can keep up with your progress.

Hopefully any damages to the FA 50 are only cosmetic.

It is a wonderful lens that you'll have a lot of fun with. I like to use it at f/2.8(*) (and sometimes stopped down some more). Below f/2.8 the bokeh (out of focus areas) can get a bit quirky and you'll also lose "bite" in the sharp areas. But you can exploit this characteristic of the lens for artistic shots.

(*) I leave the aperture ring at "A" but set the camera to f/2.8.

That should be a great combination, the FAs were built to last.

Thanks! I'll be sure to try that out once it's fixed!
I've been itching to use take some shots but I still haven't sent it in to get fixed yet.
It looks almost perfect, except for a little scratch on the side. The lens works on manual, but not on autofocus unfortunately and the focus ring is tough to turn!

Thanks! I've read up about the lens and seen the pictures my brother has taken with it and it seems great! Just not very usable right now but hopefully i'll be able to use it soon!
