New Pentax 6x7 incoming...

Well, it is new to me! I dare say it is probably older than me too...

Hi everyone! I have had my eye on a 6x7 of some sort for a long time now but they still command high prices so I thought I'd stick with the stuff I had. However a few days ago at a camera swap meet I saw a 6x7 with MLU, wood grip, metered prism, Takumar 105mm and SMC 45mm for $300. I only had $200 on me (looking for maybe some Zuiko lenses and a second OM body) so asked the seller if he would take $200...he said $250. I said done, let me get to an ATM!

I dare say at some stage it was a professional's tool. The ubiquitous prism dent, a slightly bent shutter release, brassing and a bit of oxidisation around the bottom outside on the lens mount but nothing too bad. Light seals seem like they were there once, but everything seems to work - even the TTL meter reads within ~1/3 of my E-5 and as much as I can test it against my Minolta F. Glass is great. I hope to run some RXP through it this weekend to see if I need to get it serviced. Eric has been recommended to me, but he is about as far away from me on this planet as you can get so if anyone knows of a Pentax master in Australia, I'd like to know about them.

Only problem I've encountered so far (aside from a missing shutter speed selector adaptor ring for use with TTL prism) is that I must remove the TTL eyepiece in order to get a clear, focused image through the viewfinder. I suspect that it is a corrected eyepiece, just not for my sight.

All that aside, I look forward to giving it a go and seeing you around these forums. I might be a bit quiet at first, but that is because I like to make sure any questions I have, have not been answered yet!

Welcome to the forum and that's a great 6x7 kit you picked up!

Check out the "Film SLR" & "Medium Format" sections of the Pentax Forum.

PS - I'm going to an out of town meet at the end of Nov. and hope to find obviously more Pentax gear, but also maybe another OM body and some Zuiko glass, too ...
