Hello from Korea

Well, it's about time I joined. I've owned many a Pentax and, in fact, it was my first SLR back in 1973. Right now my main squeeze for film shooting is my K1000SE with the SMC Pentax-A 35-105mm f3.5 on it. I love that combo with Portra 400 film. The K1000SE/K1000 is not for everyone, I know. Oddly enough, my favorite thing about the K1000 is the tremendous PLANK! noise that the shutter and mirror make when I shoot. I know all about mirror slap and what it can cause but the size and shape of this camera is perfect for my hand. Just perfect. So I can easily hold the camera nice and still with the zoom at 35mm and f3.5 with the shutter speed at 1/15. This is a big advantage for me with my liking for low light shots. I push the Portra to 800 and it works out so well.

I have had both an SP and SPII Spotmatics, an ME Super, and a (digital) *istDS. I have both Minolta and Nikon manual film systems, too. But this combo really does it for me. I had the K1000 SE repaired (shutter speeds off) and given an CLA so it is working like a Swiss watch now--except for the broken meter, which was unfixable. I shoot strictly sunny 16. I will get around to doing a review on it, but cameras are such personal things. This camera I would rate a solid 9. No self-timer and a long trail of other K1000SE's with broken meters keep me from rating it a 10. But, in a way, I am thankful for the meter problems because it has forced me to learn to shoot without one. I have one of the brown ones made in Japan early on, it's a ruggedly handsome camera.

Thank you, eaglem and Jean. Actually, Jean, I was trying to replace the image I posted with another one showing the 35-105 lens. So maybe I could post this link:
