Deciding to make the move to Pentax

Hello all, I have been researching my next camera purchase. I believe Pentax is the winner but not sure which model.

It really depends on your budget and how much you know about photography.
K-30, K-50 for beginners and K-3 for more advanced user.

Better Body?

Hello Chapchalk, welcome to the Forum!
Most camera makers have a 3-tiered camera (some have more) with 'starter/into' bodies, usually sold with a 'kit' lens, around $500-$600. Pentax K-500.
A mid-range camera body (no lens) with more features and somewhat higher performance, $700-$900. Pentax K-50
A flagship model with all the goodies (again no lens, by this point they assume you've already bought a few) from $1100-$1,600. Pentax K-5II(s), K-3.
In the second group, the K-50 succeeds the discontinued K-30, but they are otherwise nearly the same. Same sensor, MP (16.28) and similar features. Right now the K-30 is one of the best bargains going in APS-C (cropped format) DSLR's, available as a closeout with the kit 18-55mm WR (Weather-resistant) lens for about $500 total. That's an unused, very good mid-range WR body and WR lens for the price of a starter kit!
Hunt's Camera and other online sellers still have some, check it out!
On the header, click on 'Cameras' then DSLR Comparison' then use the scroll-down to enter the K-30, K-50 and K3 into the window.
JMO,
Ron

Hunts does have the K-500 with 18-55mm lens for just $360.

So excited it has arrived. My husband saw it and was like "wow, that is a nice looking camera I am even excited to see it!"

Congratulations and welcome to the club.
K-30 has character and not looking like some generic dslr looks you usually get with C or N brand.

We don't have a camera company around here so this is my first hands on with the camera. I did buy the white one and so my husband's next comment was "it looks like a storm trooper."

Star Wars?

He has a pretty good eye; That's the unofficial nickname for the all-white K-30, the 'Storm Trooper Version'.
Interestingly enough, Canon just came out with an all-white version of the Rebel;. I saw a thread with the ad photo here on the site today.
Good luck and enjoy your new camera!
