The Accidental Pentaxian

Hello,

I'm David, I've been photo curious for some time, but after moving to the beautiful Oregon coast a year ago I became photo obsessed. Realizing my iPhone would only take me so far I decided it was time for a "real camera" ,the choices were overwhelming and expensive for this new stay at home dad. I came across the funky chunky K-01 on a daily deal site for around $400, reading all the reviews I could find I discovered this little brick was either loved or loathed, but nobody could deny the IQ. I pulled the trigger and am thrilled with it, I have since added a vintage 50mm f/2, and the 35mm da 2.4 lenses. Here's to hoping Ricoh brings a follow up mirrorless ILC by the time I'm ready to upgrade (or perhaps the K-3 will be in my future)

Glad to be a part of this community, and proud to be a Pentaxian

It is a wonderful brand to have in the bag. I really really like my K-30. They are even pretty cheap now if you find yourself wanting to move into a viewfinder camera, same IQ as the K-01 too.

Welcome to the forum

Welcome. I hope you find the forum as enjoyable and useful as I do.

I share your affection for the K-01. It actually feels a little like cheating to get such wonderful image quality from such a low-priced camera! The slight pennance for me involves trying to use the viewfinder in bright sunlight as well as the chunky rubber/plastic cover for the memory card! I have also immensely enjoyed the old 50 mm f 2.0 lens, and have achieved excellent image quality with this very inexpensive lens.

Looking forward to some nice landscape photos from your side of the country!

Thanks everybody

Wow thank you all for such a warm welcome. The forums have been an invaluable resource for learning, and discovering more about photography, and the wonderful world of Pentax.

I posted some photos over on the K01 board fell free to check it out and tell me what you think.

Cheers from the stormy Oregon coast

David.
