New Spotmatic owner in London

Hi everyone, just starting out in photography, got myself a Spotmatic and some lenses to learn with. I don't even have any film yet. Or a battery! So...where do UK people buy their film and get their processing done???

Congratulations!

I'm a little ashamed to say that, but I buy most of my films at Boots, they offer 2 rolls at the price of 1 1/2, the color films are bad but close to where I live I found a substantial quantity of Kodak BW400CN, serious B&W film IMO, that I could get for little more than 5 quid.

They also develop film...in a pretty decent way I must say, I feared the worst: they want 5 pounds for 6x5 prints and 6 pounds for 7x6...of course it's an industrial process but the advantage is that you find Boots everywhere and you don't have to travel.

Alternatively if you want a pro job (and pro prices) there's West End Cameras in Tottenham Court Road, they have a huge selection of films (anything you want, Fuji Professional, Kodak Portra, Ilford...) and at least for colour the price is good...tomorrow I'm going there to develop the first Portra roll that I shot.

Welcome to the forum, you've certainly got more chance of getting it done where you are, as opposed to where I am.

Enjoy the whole photography experience with that fine camera.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

Interesting tip about Boots - who'd a thunk it. I also discovered a photography centre 200 yards from me, with every conceivable service. If they let me take out a student membership I can get processing for £4.15. I think. I don't know enough to understand their tariff properly Black & White and Colour Film Processing, London/Photofusion Maybe the processing fee doesn't include any prints.

True, from a photographic point of view London offers many great opportunities.

I'm not familiar with this place but I see they are talking about C-41 B&W service, so not the "real" B&W but the process used by Kodak BW400CN or the Fuji Neopan C41, basically these B&W costs like colour prints.

The prices are aligned to Boots which is good, the placs is Brixton and unfortunately not close to where I live at all, but thank you for the link, I'd love to partecipate to some of their classes if they aren't very expensive, I've seen that in some posh places in London they charge 60 quid for a 60 minutes's lesson.
