Hi All - I just joined the forum, as I needed advice!

I want to buy just two lens for my Pentax K-5, and would welcome any recommendations suggestions. Most of my photography opportunities are in these areas:
1. Close Ups and Wide Angle (enough to capture an entire kitchen), of stone countertop installations - Purpose is to photograph finished installations, edge profiles, and texture of material, etc.
2. Dinners, Weddings, Family gatherings, Kids, and Animals
3. Travel
4. Landscape

Welcome George.I will leave the lens advice to others, with more knowledge of various lenses

Welcome from Iowa! I don't have a clue what would work for you. I would look to the lens database and see what the people are saying about various wide lenses. Or just buy as many different types as you can!

Welcome to the forum, that's quite a task list for just two lenses, to give LBA a decent chance to get hold of you, more than two lenses are required.

Welcome. The DA 12-24 will take care of most of your #1,#3 and #4 requirements.
