Just Bought K30

Hi, new member here...having just bought the K30 after umming and ahhing over the Nikon stuff. Your forum helped, thanks!!

I am new to the DSLR thingy, having started a long time ago with a Kershaw Eight 20 Penguin bellows camera (I kid you not!) Progressed to a Zenit and finally bought a Nikon FG in the early 90's. I moved on to the instant snappy cameras, but longed to get back to the good old SLR, so here I am.

I'm having lots of fun trying to remember all the old Depth of field, aperture settings ISO's and all that, my poor head!!

A quick question though, what two lenses would you consider to be essential to cover most scenarios, in your bag (I have the 18-55mm Pentax lens that came with the camera)?

Cheers

Welcome! You can't go wrong with the DA 18-135. Plenty of range, silent and fast autofocus, weather sealed, and good image quality to boot. Also the 35 f/2.4 is a great prime for indoor shooting, parties, etc, and the price can't be beat!

Welcome... You've made a great choice.

Nobody can really answer that question as everyone has their style and preferred subject. I don't shoot nature or sports so have little use for long lenses. And we Pentaxians have a thing for primes so trying to pick just 2 is next to difficult. But the 18-135mm will cover most situations. If I could only have one more I would go DA15 Ltd, and I don't even own this lens. I do want it though. But I do love my FA77 and my FA31 and there is no way I could give either up.

edit: was contemplating the DA35 too as Fat Albert suggested. Great lens worth more than the price suggests.

Cheers gents, it's lucky it's close to Christmas!

I've been going round the house just shooting everything not having to worry about developing film - instant results + plus photo editing software - best mid life crisis ever

Welcome to the forums - and congratulations on your new camera!

My cover-it-all two lens kit is the DA 18-135 (used to be the 18-55) and the DA 55-300. I use that kit for travelling, especially when I expect to see wildlife.

But of course, it's hard to leave all the primes at home, and I prefer to use those when I can.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Now, does anybody have a sofa I can borrow, preferably with money down the back of the cushions?
