I use my pentax to shoot my subjects for paintings. Love to play with the images to creat something new. Just lost my K-50 and am looking at the K-01 to replace it. I have several lenses, some quite nice and quite old. I am jot a professional photographer, but arofessional painter. Also need the camera for submissions .

If you're photographing artwork, the DA35 Macro Ltd or the D FA 50 macro are wonderful lenses, very good flat field performance, very little distortion. Welcome to the forum!

Don't dismiss the K-30 as a K-50 replacement, basically the same exact camera, but the K-30 is available pretty cheaply here and there. I have a K-30 and it's pretty much fantastic.

A great place to buy used equipment is here on the forum. Most of the times the prices are very fair, and since we are photographers, most of us know what we are talking about when we describe the condition. There are several K-01's for sale in the marketplace now. Just search K-01 from the marketplace (the buy/sell dropdown menu, choose Pentax items for sale), and you'll see choices! If you want to go the K-30 route, there is at least one of those for sale too.

Welcome from Iowa! You do what Norman Rockwell did! He set up and photographed what he wanted to paint. Did all the decision making during that phase, then painted the result. It's interesting to see all his famous Saturday Evening Post work as photos with real people! So, you're in good company!! Of course if you take a few photos just for fun, even better!!
