A newby please be gentle.

Just introducing myself and trying to understand the rules of the website guys and gals.

I'm 54 years old and have used Pentax type mounts for many years, but never actually a Pentax camera ( nearly bought a K1000). First used a Russian SLR with a M42 mount where I learnt a great deal. next I bought a state of the art (at the time) Ricoh XRX with it's pentax K mount 50mm lens and a Sigma 70-210. This lasted for many years until a fateful encounter with Welsh weather. Despite a water-resistant bag and a plastic bag, the camera became waterlogged on a walk on Carnedd Llewelyn in dreadful rain.

After this I bought a Canon S70 compact and a few other compacts until last month when I bought a (hopefully) water - resistant K-30 with a 18-55 WR lens. So, now I'm back with DSLR. Yipeee!!

My speciality is walking in the UK, especially Scotland or the Lake Dictrict. Many of a time I wished I had a good winter camera. Hope I don't disappoint if I post a few pics in the future.

Oh just as an aside, I'm a Geordie. Those in the UK will know what that means LOL....ie, I talk a strange English dialect that descends from Vikings, Irish and Scots.

Thanks for reading this.

Great in the snow etc. BUT if you're planning to be out in pretty cold weather, you may want to buy a spare battery and keep it somewhere warm...

Welcome aboard!

Cheers for the welcome everyone.

Yes, I did mean weather resistant rather then "water" :-)

Good idea about the extra battery in cold weather as my compacts usually are in my chest pocket and fairly warm.
