Gosh - I've just become a Pentaxian...

...and it didn't hurt a bit - apart from the card yelling for mercy

The only bit that is annoying is that four or five years ago I gave away all my old Pentax Thread lenses - and now it turns out I could have used them on my new K-30!!!

Oh well - at least I've got something to hunt for at boot sales next summer.

Ran a Fuji ST605N from 1977 to around 2001 when a leaking meter battery took out the terminals and that was that.

I've been in P.A.S land with a little Fuji Finepix 7.3mp jobby ever since and all credit it's not a bad little camera at all - but yearned to get back to SLR land.

I do a wide mixture of stuff and need to be able to shoot inside churches as well as low light wildlife and just about anything else. I'm a member of the local U3A and there is a very active photography group, and one member very kindly lent me a Canon 450D to help me decide what to look for - so I got a Pentax

I've looked at Canon and Nikon till I'm blue in the face, delved into Olympus and Panasonic and Sony and Canon and Nikon and ........oh yes I've mentioned them already.
With the weather proofing and image quality/price point/build quality the K-30 just seems to be so right on so many levels. I've ordered one with the 18-135WR lens as that looks like a good compromise. I do need a longer lens, but figure I can wait to see how I get on with the 18-135. The local rook population are fascinating to study, but they're so shy that I found the 55-250 with the Canon loaner a godsend. The 55-300 looks good, but I'll wait to see if any vintage glass turns up - the 55-300 isn't WR anyway so that bit doesn't matter. However having been caught out in a sudden squall last month with the Canon loaner I realised very soon that a WR camera would be really useful.

Well all I've got to do now is wait till it arrives - which could be 4 or 5 DAYS!!! I'll cope somehow.

Welcome aboard!
As for being a Pentaxian?
You probably want to start out as a "Pentax User".

To be a Pentaxian, you might have to do/experience a few things.

Like....

Pentax is sold/bought to another company and you live through it.
You wait years to get certain updates - either on a camera or lens.
You realize there are no firmware hacks for Pentax cameras.
You are made fun of for choosing Pentax.
You have an opinion on AOC, Honeywell, Hoya and Ricoh.
You find a niche in an era of Pentax greatness.
You do not change/modify/mod any Pentax legacy glass.
You complain (at least once) about the FF (for or against, it doesn't matter)
You covet a 645D or DA HD 560mm.
etc. etc. etc.

And finally, since you gave away your M42 legacy glass, you probably can't EVER be called a Pentaxian.
You might actually be banished.

Seriously. Welcome new Pentax User.

Yep, the Pentaxian badge is still within your reach

Oh, and the 18-135 is a good start. It's sooo nice not having to worry about the weather As for the 55-300 does come in a WR version - it was just recently (re-)released.

Welcome aboard!

Welcome, now that takes a while to get full Pentaxian status, but you've started out on the right road here.

Don't you get an automatic Pentaxian badge if you spot the Kerrodown?

One comment to the OP, for inside churches, a (used) Sigma 30mm 1.4 is a great lens. Center sharp, f1.4, reasonable focal length. It's my go-to for indoors. If the church is big, a fast 50mm may be a better bet. And as already stated, the DA55-300 is freshly available in WR!

I'll have to seek wise council from Adam on that one.

Welcome bin!

As for Lauren's list...

You probably want to start out as a "Pentax User".

To be a Pentaxian, you might have to do/experience a few things.

Like....

Pentax is sold/bought to another company and you live through it. Check... Twice..

You wait years to get certain updates - either on a camera or lens. Check

You realize there are no firmware hacks for Pentax cameras. Check

You are made fun of for choosing Pentax. Check... More often then I want to admit.

You have an opinion on AOC, Honeywell, Hoya and Ricoh. Check

You find a niche in an era of Pentax greatness. Check

You do not change/modify/mod any Pentax legacy glass. Oops... failed that one... Miserably. I turned my "three Amigos" into Amigas, so they would work on Canon FF body.

You complain (at least once) about the FF (for or against, it doesn't matter) Check

You covet a 645D or DA HD 560mm.
etc. etc. etc. Check, but only the 645D
So does this make me extra-Pentaxian? Because I desperately wanted to use my wonderful Pentax lenses on the format they were created for? Or does this mean I'm banished for torturing lenses?

Think Kozlok is referring to the mentally taxing image puzzles that I post from time to time.
