Hello everyone

I just got a Pentax k 10d for Christmas. It's my first DSLR, but I do have film camera experience going back twenty or thirty years. So I am an old newbie.

I was interested in the Pentax cameras because I am on a tight budget so being able to use old cheap used lenses appeals to me. Of course I would love to get the $900 lenses too, but the rent has to get paid.

Regards and all best wishes for the New Year.

Welcome aboard - the K10D is a great camera to think like a film photographer with. Keep the ISO down and with plenty of light (or time) and it produces some luscious images. You may want to look at a split-focus screen for the K10 if you plan to do a lot of manual work.

I have two telephoto lenses for my old Konica T3 I may be able to use. If I can convert them for the cost of an adapter - that would be great.

A 400 5.6 prime that is nice and sharp, and a 500 mirror that is less sharp but more portable.

But first I need to figure out the nine or is it ten different exposure modes. My old Konica was shutter priority or manual; period.

And I do like the slower speeds, Kodachrome 25 was my thing.

TAv is what I use most. You can set the aperture you want, then use the shutter speed to get an acceptable ISO. That's with an auto-aperture lens, of course. I find it the easiest mode to use in the field, since you have the two wheels.

Welcome to the forum, the K10D was my first digital Pentax too, a great piece of kit.
