Originally posted by drewber I'm in Highland Village, although I am originally from Dallas. I take surgical pictures. I bought a 50mm macro and a ring flash. I have to get really close to the pt, almost touching his or her nose. Would I be able to get tighter shots and not be as close, if I had a 100mm macro?
Thanks
I had to do some Christmas shopping in Lewisville! What a small world!
You are correct about not having to get as close with the 100mm - the D-FA 100mm macro has its minimum focusing distance as 30cm as opposed to the 50mm's 15cm. Alternatively, the Tamron 90mm macro (I don't have this lens, but others speak highly of it), has a minimum focusing distance of 28cm, still nearly twice as long as your 50mm.
Since it doesn't sound like you need the weather-proofing of the newest version of the D-FA 100mm macro, you could pick up a used copy of the old, non-WR lens here on the marketplace.
