Hi from Sri Lanka

Hi,
I got a Pentax K-r as my first dslr in 2008. A limited web survey convinced me that in-body stabilization + availability and compatibility of old lenses makes Pentax a better bargain for a beginner.
The pentax forum was my go-to place for lens reviews over the last two years and am immensely thankful for all people here who contributed by sharing their valuable experiences with various pentax lenses.

Cheers,
Kosala

Same here, I haven't met anyone before from Sri Lanka who used Pentax.
I'm from Colombo, but have been living in England and Switzerland during my dslr days.

Exactly, of all my contacts in SL only my father even knew about Pentax.
I toyed with various pentax lenses over the last few years after reading reviews here. Particularly liked a M class prime which produced far better results than all the cheap zooms. That convinced me the value of proper glass. I switched to a canon full frame and a proper L class lens few days ago.

That's how I ended up with pentax. I still use all the glasses my Dad had. I Specially like the Pentax F series glasses from his collection. True the M series manual glasses are superb optics. But I find I use very less use of my manual glasses from my Dad's m42 s.m.c takumars. It's sad that Pentax or Ricoh don't have a dealer in SL. I'm sure you will enjoy your Pentax glasses on the Canon FF

Thanks kerrodown.
Manual focus with old lenses is not so bad as with latest models, however I think you need an adapter to use m42 with new bodies.
Regarding pentax glass on canon, unfortunately this doesn't work if the canon is a full frame. The aperture ring gets in the way of the mirror, and needs to be chopped off. I'd rather keep my pentax kit, specially if I visit someplace like yala.

Welcome from Iowa! I thinking it's probably warmer where you're at right now! Yes, you will need an adapter for m42's. Get one without a flange or you will loose infinity focus. Enjoy the forum and post often!
