K10d

Have a K10D and am wanting to upgrade. Want to stay with Pentax but not sure what I want model. Want to stay with the same level of quality, just want updated whistles and bells and video. Any one have any ideas which model? Looking at the K50 but not sure. Don't want anything more complicated than the K10D.

Hi
I would recommend a K-3 or a K-5ii. Although, I'm sure the K-50 will be a good upgrade too.
Kind regards,
Mark

Would you mind elaborating on why you would recommend those two over the K50?

I truly love my K10D with the exception of poor low-light pics. Would like my upgrade to produce better in that area.

Honestly you will see a large jump if you upgrade to any of those bodies. Almost any newer pentax will be a night/day difference from the k10d.

The k-5ii and k-3 are both incredibly good at AF in poor lighting.

I think both are better cameras than the K-50. Not that the K-50 is not also very good, but the step up in quality to these to is just a bit more.

The K-5II and K-3 are direct descendants of the K10D, while the K-50 is a bit less advanced. I think I would miss the topside LCD panel if I ever got the K-50.

On the other hand, the K-50 has focus peaking and I believe is also better for video than the K-5ii. Although the K-3 is probably even better when it comes to video.

Anyway, they are all excellent cameras, all very close in image quality. The main thing differentiating is the feature set of each. How they feel in your hands is more important, though, so if you have the chance to test them out I would recommend doing so.

All those models will be (a lot) better in high iso noise performance than the K10D:
K-500, K-30, K-01, K-50, K-5 (II, IIs), K-3.

So you have a lot too choose from. The consensus is that K-500 is a very good deal, but lack of the focal point highlight in viewfinder is a major problem. K-30 is a very good deal now, if you can find one and so is K-50. I do like the focus peaking a lot and I used it every day. The K-5 models and K-3 have 14bit A/D conversion which gives you a bit better tonal depth in the deep shadows, could be useful for low light. I don't think the K-5 series has focus peaking though. K-3 should be superior in operation to all other models, so if you have money to spend, I would go for that. If you would like to save, I would go for K-30 or K-50.

If you're a technical type shooter with the K10, I'd go for a K5IIs and really give it a workout.

The K3 is attractive, and if you have the money and lenses to really use the camera, I wouldn't try to talk you out of it.

If you're not as technical, I'd look at the K50 or K30. If you use that top LCD a lot, that's a big consideration, though...
