So I'm new, kind of

I've been lurking here for about a year, when I first discovered this site. I've read forum posts, advice, gear reviews and I happy with my experiences. Why lurk? I don't really feel like the photos I take are good enough to share, so I didn't think there would be any point introducing myself. My husband bought my camera for me two Christmases ago; I've long loved photography but hadn't done anything much about that love for a long time. As I was given a new camera that has changed!
Reading about this months promotion, I thought I might as well introduce myself. I don't expect to win anything but maybe someone might say hi back

Hi
Welcome to the forum and good on you for "unlurking"
Do feel free to post some photos. What you may not think is good enough to share, may just be that interesting shot we'd all like to see.
Kind regards,
Mark

I've only been here for 3 months and was lurking until this promotion as well (also don't expect to win anything). I'd love to see what you've got - I'm sure you've taken some nice photos.

Thanks for the kind words They are appreciated
The other issue I have with posting hoots is that I've been without wifi for the last year (and still are). While waiting to build a hours ewe are renting, and have no internet connection. I rely on my iPad/iPhone and occasionally take my Mac to work to use the wifi there (yes, that's hardcore, but required for updates etc!). The whole getting photos from Mac to iPad frustrates me because it's no longer a seamless thoughtless activity.
However there is some software I'd like to buy so when I do I'll post some pics then

Welcome to the Forums. Never feel that your photos are "not good enough" to share. I find that the feedback here is very constructive. I have learned a lot and I am sure you will too - so post some pics for us to look at. Plus it's always good to have another Aussie on board. Any more Pentaxians down here and the world will shift on its axis!

I have been a lurker for a LONG time. I only became very active in the last week. I always come and read because this forum is a treasure trove of info and help. We are our own worst critics, please share your photos because you can learn so much from the input of all the great people here. I learn something new every day! Welcome!

So, how did you all find your niche? Have you always known what you liked to photograph & what you don't?

I just photographed everything as it came along... Then I became more methodical and spent considerable time on 500px and similar photosharing websites. This really pointed me into kinds of pictures I would like to do. I started looking up how people could have gotten the shots I liked and the techniques I learnt allowed me to 'see' more. At some points I learnt enough various techniques they became (a little) less distracting from taking the shots and it became a lot more fun after that. Some times those shots would be more interesting than they looked in real life and once I got accustomed with all the techniques I could see the final pictures without getting too bogged down on those details.

Too long, didn't read version is I went through lots of best shots on 500px and flickr.

I do mostly wildlife photography - although it tends to be just an adjunct to my day-to-day work. I have mostly motion sensor cameras keeping an eye on what is going on. I do a bit of photography in relation to my archaeological interests I also like travel photography (wildlife and archaeology feature highly there too) - when I have the time and the money to travel.

Oh, that sounds interesting, archaeology especially.

Prizes, yes they are always good! I won a trip for two to Japan 9 years ago, that was a fabulous prize to win!
