An Old Newbie

This old guy is interested in finding a used DSLR with which I can use my Tamron 28-200 and 70-300 lenses from my ZX-7 AF. I simply don't buy new stuff of any sort - cars-guns-cameras-even girl friends. My motto is, why buy new when slightly used will do? Slightly can be exaggerated of course. But so far, I've been lucky.

I live in the river bottoms of the Crow River in Minnesota. I have several bald eagle nests around in the woods bordering the river so there are many opportunities to record life of the adults and eaglets. My current digital 2.0mp, f=6.4 - 19mm with a macro/WA attachment takes a decent photo, but lacks versatility. See the attached nest photo taken a couple of days ago with said equipment.

Continued use of my ZX-7 is problematical since processing is becoming more difficult to get done. Especially, when one lives in a rural town that "sends them to the lab and we call when we get them back" (said the high school student at the pharmacy check-out).

So, for my opening question, which Pentax DSLR body will the Pentax AF lenses fit? Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the Forums. All the Pentax DSLR bodies are K-mount, just like your ZX-7. I am still using AF lenses that I used on my MZ-5n and as far as I know if your lenses are AF they should AF on a more recent Pentax DSLR. Sounds like you live in a great place. Like you, I like get my stuff used - but my wife draws the line at girl friends!

Welcome to the forum, not so sure about the used girlfriend bit, I'm not saying anything else as I fear it could bring a lot of trouble my way.

I use two 1976 fully manual lenses on my DSLR. I also use a 40+ year old screw mount lens with the assistance of an adapter. No problem using these, but manual focus and manual exposure. The exposure is helped by the green button; the focus is helped by Catch-In-Focus. Any lens with an "A" on the aperture ring will auto expose. Any lens with F or D in the name will also auto focus.
