Hello

Hello, I am Barry Darnell and got my first Pentax camera at the Navy exchange in Rota, Spain in the summer of 1970. This camera an Asahi Pentax Spotmatic SLR. I made a lot of pictures but mostly slides. Cost was the major reason for slides. Pentax is the camera of choice for me. I have been considering going to the DSLR camera. I have been looking on and off for the past few years, Pentax of course. The Asahi Pentax I bought in 1970 came with a very good lens. It is a F1.4 / 50 with 42 mm treads. Can this lens be used with the new Pentax camera’s like the K3?

Yes, screw mount with adapter, with K-mount, no adapters required.

Yes, you can use the screw mount lenses with your newest and greatest DSLR. I highly recommend getting only the genuine Pentax Mount Adapter K. It isn't worth the few dollars you save with third party adapters. Some are hard to remove. Some won't focus to infinity. Some are just garbage. I have never had a problem with the genuine Pentax adapter.

There is a sticky thread at the top of the beginners' forum on how to handle all the old lenses on the new cameras. It isn't terribly difficult, particularly if you come from the Spotmatic.
