Greetings from Cork, Ireland!

Hello hello!

Just wanted to say hello to everyone! Been browsing these forums a bit over the last month as I try and make my decision as to what system to get as my first camera.

I'm 99% sure its going to be Pentax, assuming sourcing one isn't too big a problem here. The prices are a bit crazy in Ireland (a k-50 goes for the equivalent of 1000 dollars new), so I'm always on the hunt for a great deal.

Everyone seems friendly and helpful here, and there isn't much squabbling about what is better. People just seem to be about enjoying what they have and the pictures, which suits me just fine

Hopefully I'll have a nice shiny camera to use soon enough, and can start on my pentax journey

Welcome aboard! Are you open to importing one? That sounds like it would be a lot cheaper, even if you order it on eBay. The US-based stores B&H and Adorama will also ship internationally w/ customs clearance and all that.

Welcome! Like Adam says, importing might be a good idea. And anyway I would consider looking for a used one - either a K-30/K-50 or a K-5.

And yes, most people on this forum realise that it's the photographer who's taking the picture, not the camera. And the positive and supporting spirit here makes it all the more fun to learn

Welcome aboard, there's always been a great bond between the Irish and the Scots.

In fact my youngest twenty something daughter, is just back from visiting one of her pals in Dublin. The one word she used to describe her weekend was "awesome".

Welcome, I hope you go with the Pentax.
I visited your lovely town many years ago while working for Qumas.
Wasn't into photography much then and would love to see your photos of the area.
