Greetings from Florida...

Good day all,

I've been lurking for a while and thought it was time to finally register and say hi. I've been a Pentax user for about 7 years since I bought my first DSLR, a K100D. I chose Pentax at the time for two primary reasons, the fact that the K100 used AA batteries and that it had OS built into the camera body. My K100 served me well until last year when I upgraded to a K5. The was quite a jump in every possible way.

Over the years I picked up a few different lenses beyond the original 18-55mm "kit" (Pentax-M 50mm f1.4, Pentax-M Macro 100mm f4, Pentax-FA 50 f1.4, Tamron 70-300mm, Tamron 18-250) that have served me well for the general family and vacation shots that I tend to take. I've recently started trying to expand my skills with the camera which has caused me to have a better understanding that if I want to compose better pictures in lower light situations I needed to pay better attention to my lens choices. I just this week bought the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM FLD based on the reviews here on Pentax Forums.

Hello Jon, Welcome to the Forum!
Sounds like you're on the right track, a camera upgrade and now lens upgrade. Your other lenses sound good, too, but that magic 'F/2.8' light-gathering ability makes a real difference with available-light shooting. Good luck and post some photos soon!
