Greetings

It's been a long journey into the digital world. My first camera was a battered second hand S1A in 1971, yes I am quite ancient. Then not so long ago I got a ist DS, which was very good. Then picked up a reasonably priced K7 which was quite beautiful.

I used to do F1 photography and collected many signed photos, which I sold recently; so I decided to go for an upgrade, it all only seemed fair to reinvest what I had made from my early photos into photography.
I nearly went for NIKON D610, a very close run thing, a beautiful camera too. I am now interested in wild life photography and landscapes in England that is, so felt that a full frame would disadvantage me losing out on reach. Also, suffered from loyalty pangs towards Pentax even though they are in effect Ricoh.

What discouraged me from going for Pentax at first was the seeming scarcity or accessibility of very good lenses. Then looking at the price of NIkon, Canon, they were so expensive, it would have been an overindulgence for me. So, back to Pentax. I am waiting for the arrival of my K3. The cameras seem to excel the lenses.

Excuse my comments if they seem somewhat facile, I guess this forum holds many experienced Pentax photographers. I would be happy to hear their remarks, if they will help me to enjoy my photography.

Best regards

Gerald

Many thanks, it seems like a great camera which appears to be very good value for money. Just hoping I will manage to obtain some good quality glass to go with it. I came across a K 55mm 1.7, second hand, naturally not autofocus, but dont think that will be a great problem.

I will look into the lens forum for further advice.

Best regards

Many thanks for your good wishes. I am reading your impressive list of cameras. I have just received a k 55mm 1.8 lens which I bought second hand, but I cannot believe the quality - it is absolutely 'mint' condition. I have only taken a few quick shots, but the quality is sublime. I am using it on my K7. I don't think this lens has been used before. Best regards, Gerald

Welcome to the forum, there are one or two of us here, that may or may not fall into that category also.

Hi Gerald and welcome.

Hopefully you still have a collection of unsigned F1 photography and maybe you can post a sample or two from time to time. With England being the centre of F1 I'm sure you have lots of good nostalgic stuff. I'll go to Goodwood/Brooklands/etc at some future point to take some shots of my own, but until then I'll have to be content looking at whatever I come across on the web. One site which I've found lots of good shots on is The Nostalgia Forum - The AUTOSPORT Forums .

Lets see what the K-3 can do!!

Thanks for the warm welcome. Last year, I spent a week on the Isle of Mull, a beautiful holiday with the weather to go with it. We were in a croft on a farm at Treshnish Point. This June, we have a week close to the Trotternish Ridge, near Uig on the Isle of Skye.
Best regards
Gerald

Hi Ted, Well, my interest in F1 goes back to the late 60's and 70's. My photographic skills quite limited and my equipment too, it did not measure up to the main guys at the circuit. I used the S1a and a Takumar 135 lens which you had to set your focus, then close down the aperture ring. On a bright day, you could hardly see anything, a bit of luck and knack was needed. I'll try to add some photos, some are faded, browned off too! My problem will be being able to use the forum in the correct manner without causing slip ups. Most of the photos have moved on now, but still a few as a sample. Still have the negatives, the colour negs scan poorly, the colours are not quite right even though they appear good in the photos. However bw scan really well, better than the developed photos.Best regards Arvo (Gerald2)

Perhaps I should pick the same week in June as you, if you have that level of control over the weather.

Not a very scientific test. But, alas, the year before we went up to the Solway Firth, that was lovely too. You've put the hex on me. I don't think Skye will be pretty in a downpour, but at least Pentax is weatherproof which is one of the factors I moved back.
I'll go for the quick reply, not sure what go advanced means yet!
Cheers.
