Another Pentaxian abandoning Canon

Hello everyone!

I'm a happy owner of a K-5 II for half a year now and figured it would be great to join in after reading for a while.

I bought my first camera just three years back after a great trip to scandinavia without one... lots of awesome moments and no pictures at all... pretty annoying when I think back now ;-)

Back then it was a 500D, which I quite soon upgraded with Magic Lantern because I absolutely hated using a camera with a lot of potential functionality just withheld by the vendor for some reason.

Last year I started looking for a semi-pro/pro DSLR but just couldn't find anything appealing.
All the DSLRs were either incredibly expensive, not fit for outdoors use or just bad.
Finally I widened my perspective and realised how awesome Pentax cameras were :-)

I rushed to a dealer at the speed of light, grabbed a Pentax DSLR and here I am.

Cheers,
kpl

K-5 II, you picked a good one!

What lenses have you got? Add them to your profile. There are plenty of good (and great) lenses to choose from. You don't need them all - just a few that do the job for you!

I like the K-5 II very much (even though the K-5 II s was quite appealing). Sometimes I wonder what the results would look like without the anti-aliasing filter, but then, I love not to have to think about moiree and just enjoy the versatility.

I'll add my gear to my profile soon.

Right now I've got the 18-55 kit lens, the Sigma 35/1.4 Art and the Pentax 70/2.4 Limited.

Cheers,
kpl

Welcome to the forum. You have two great prime lenses.

Pentax has two superb series of primes: the FA Limited and the DA Limited lenses. Beware of LBA...

You're getting better colors but a little less sharpness - that's what's happening. Don't be too jealous - it's a fair trade-off.

Don't listen to him. Buy the biggest camera bag you can afford, and fill it up, slowly but purposefully. You've made a very sensible start, by abandoning canon.
Lens selection so far looks good too. Now let's see some shots.

Regards

Welcome aboard - that's a nice starting kit. The only thing I'd be seriously considering now is the 55-300 HD if you want something long and WR at a reasonable price.

it's all about getting outside and keeping your eyes open in the spring.
