Introducing myself

Hi everyone, my name is Adam, and I am a photography addict.

My background is mainly in television and video production. I've worked in broadcast television for just over ten years, most of that time as a shooter. I now am a full time freelancer.

Still photography has always been a passion of mine, though I haven't always been able to afford very nice gear. For a long time I shot only with an old Canon A60 powershot. My next camera was a Pentax K100D that I shot on until it died. Recently I upgraded to a K3 and am hoping to be able to spend some money on lenses in coming months.

I have never taken a photography class. I have no training and I have never got feedback on my work from other photographers. Working with motion picture equipment I learned the basics of photography. With pro video cameras you still have to worry about your f-stop, shutter speed, focus, composition, etc.

I am looking forward to becoming part of this community and hope that I will be able to learn from everyone here and improve my photography.

Welcome to the forum, that almost sounds like the opening line at an AA meeting, photography is less damaging to your health, but has nasty side effects on your wallet.

The basics takes you a LONG way with DSLRs. The rest are just bells and whistles, though some really cool bells and whistles....

Take your time and figure out what kinds of lenses will do what you want. The research phase is pretty fun.

I do have some images on my Flickr feed at

I"m still just getting familiar with the forum here and am not sure what the best way to share my work is.
