I am new in this world of Pentax...

Hello all of you.
I am new in this world of Pentax.
I have just bought my very first Pentax DSLR and it is the K-3.
I`m Norwegian, prefer being outdoor and loves to travel.
I hope to learn a lot from all of you…

Thank you.
I come from the world of Olympus. I started with the OM-10 and -2n in the mid 80`s.
Up to now I have used (and misused) the E-3 and E-5 in all kind of weather, in sandy conditions and in Polar Regions.

I missed the possibilities for better birding and nature photography, so I ended up choosing either Nikon D7100 or Pentax K-3, so then I decided for Pentax.

I have invested in following lenses:
• smc DA 18-55mm / 3.5-5.6 AL WR,
• HD PENTAX-DA 55-300mm F4-5.8ED WR,
• smc DA 300 / 4.0 ED (IF) SDM and the
• Pentax HD DA 1.4TC AW Telekonverter

So here I am…

Thank you for welcoming me.
Are there some threads or sites in this forum or other resources that give advices in how to set up my camera or gives clever advises in how to programme the K-3 in best ways for different tasks?

Welcome aboard! That's a great start for birding.

I usually use TAv mode, set the aperture to a good setting for depth of field and sharpness, then adjust the shutter for exposure. 90% of my shooting is in TAv, as I feel it's the most flexible control - just keep an eye on the ISO.

For 90% of my shooting with Olympus-gear, I have used aperture…

TAv is 99% of the reason I bought a K-5. I shot birds in Av with the K-x, and most of the time the shutter speed was too low. If I tried to shoot in Tv the aperture was too wide.

Velkommen! Det er ikke så mange nordmenn her

Yeah, I agree that TAv is brilliant for birding. As is the K-3, DA*300 and the TC. Great setup!
