I got a few pictures back today and its still not what I had in mind but I'm getting better I used my k1000 with this out in Charleston, SC hints on how to improve I understand the lighting now and sort of how to use the aperture but again I'm still a novice trying to learn basically through trial and error

Welcome to photography!
Read some books. Everyone here recommends "Understanding Exposure" as a good place to start.
As to critique of you photos, good quality scans of the prints, rather than what looks like smartphone snaps in poor light, would make it much easier.

I think you may be introducing too may variables here for anyone to provide useful feedback. I note the images appear to have been photographed rather than scanned. It's therefore not clear if what you're showing us is the print as you see it, or if the print is suffering from reflection issues or focusing issues in the re-photography phase. Both car photos (the one above and the one in the link you posted) seem to show some kind of reflection.

Equally, there's lighting and contrast issues, but I can't tell if this is present on the original image, or the image as photographed from the print.

No problem. Suggest you try to scan your images or negatives and review that way.
