Went out and tried some astrophotography tonight! Took forever to drive out to the nearest dark sight but it was one of the top 10 things I have seen so far in life! Here are some pics, this is my first attempt so don't judge too terribly hard pls But criticism is appreciated. The discerning astrologer will notice these all have the same star grouping in them. These just happen to be my favorites and the ones with the most going on in them.

Messed with the white balance for this one:

And a selfie:

Well done Isaac. Great shots.

Now you have an extra argument for getting an ultrawide!

Yeah although it takes some of the urgency off. At the same time, and correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't the 10-20mm be a great lens for walking around and/or vacations?

Absolutely. Great for landscapes, streets, architecture, interiors. (And astrophotography!)

Ultrawides require new techniques - Mastering Wide-Angle Great fun - you'll love it.

The more I read the more I want to go get a credit card and buy it today hahaha. Oh well, all good things to those who wait I suppose. When I sell my next laser the proceeds will go to this lens.

I am glad I bought that telephoto, but I feel like it will not get nearly as much use as I thought it would.

Keep an eye on the used market! I wonder how well the DA21mm would do for these?

And yes, everyone should be required to visit a dark sky area so they know what light pollution is. I think if that happens we'll really start to address the light pollution problem. In the dead of winter my area isn't too bad, but still it's nothing like full dark. Plus, I can't stand out there for hours while the camera battery freezes...

Where did you go to get your dark sky shots? I've generally gone to Canyon of the Eagles for that sort of thing, unless I was making an expedition out to West Texas, but it's been a few years and I'm curious whether there's anything better or closer.

I went about 30-40 miles west of Llano, plus or minus a few. I'll have to look up Canyon of the Eagles. It was right in the middle of a dark sky zone. Next time I go out I plan to find a dark sky area with a lake or pond or something to try some reflection photos.

Ah, cool; I'll have to check that out. And if you went past Llano, please tell me you stopped at Cooper's!

For lens recommendations, what's your budget, and what sorts of focal lengths do you want to use? I love love love my 31mm Limited, but it's not cheap...
Hi Pentax forum,
I would like to introduce myself. I am getting my new K-511s next week. Changing from my Fuji bridge camera . I shoot birds, lots of great ones, northern Flicker, Western Kingbird, American Kestrals, all in and around our acreage near Hanna, Alberta. I send a photo when I get the K-511s. Does anyone mount a spotting scope on their camera???
This is a great forum!!!!
