Mid-Missouri Returning Pentax Pal

Too many years since I used my SuperProgram. Recently switched to DSLR by purchasing a K-x. Should be a good introduction to digital photography, sparking later acquisition of more upscale equipment.

In due course, I'll start an album and let y'all critique the pix. What I've seen the rest of y'all offering up is truly amazing! You've got an eye for composition, a heart to understand the emotion of a situation, and the gear to capture the moment.

More chat and sharing as the days go by...

Great! Welcome! Where in Mid-Missouri are you? I'm in Sedalia. You know, the State Fair starts next week and there are tons of photo ops. ;-)

Wow! Y'all just come out of the woodwork when some drops a line. I'm sure there will be even more responses once I get the photos downloaded, so there can be some critiquing. It'll be good to bone up on all things photographic with y'all.

TER-OR, where's the wet bar in this clubhouse?

severalsnakes, we're over in Fulton. Occasionally come out Sedalia-way to go to Knob Noster Park for church fellowship functions. Lovely area, this Mid-Missouri. (Says the Mississippi transplant)

Kerrowdown, I'm glad you're providing pix of your exotic homeland. Sharing snaps of the landscapes, the fauna and flora, and the doings of the folks there is a welcome boost to an otherwise overly-American day.

pentaximus, looking forward to hearing some of your tricks of the trade, using the K-x. I'm just getting acquainted with it and its full range of capabilities. Did you, by the way, use yours to capture each image of your tagline? Nifty!

My K-x is still with me after 3+ years, but I couldn't refuse the call of the K-3 earlier this year. It has a few more bells and whistles (the autofocus and processor are great for sports/action), but the K-x is still "the little camera that could." I always enjoy "doing battle" with my father-in-law and his Nikon D7000. He is amazed at the shots I get with the K-x. Don't underestimate it!

As for the tagline...I have considered redoing it with my own shots, but currently it's composed of ones I found. Maybe one of these days.

We gave our K-x to the daughter-in-law to be. She takes great pictures of her dog with it.

Um...uh... Y'all are gonna maybe hate me for this, but I gotta be truthful. I swapped out my K-x for a K-50 just recently. There! I said it.

Please don't get your knickers in a twist about it, though. See...I'm not a rich man, and this can be a very expensive hobby. I was finding the K-x was eating up my batteries super-fast, especially when using the flash. I took it to Creve Coeur Camera in Columbia to discuss this little aberration and--lo! and behold--they recommended I trade out for a different camera that functions seamlessly. (Yep. I got talked into spending some more cash.) They gave me a reasonable rebate on the original kit, and it brought the cost of the K-50 way down, so I had no reason to squawk. (Also, I'm one of those "one camera" kinda guys. Like I'm a "one woman" kinda guy. Ask the wife.)

So...now I'm trying to find a good home for the 30+ year-old SuperProgram with its three lenses. Know anyone that stil wants to do film? I suppose there's a forum thread for Sales and Swaps, so I should go look there and post its availability.

Y'all keep in touch, okay? I'll be here more regularly, now that I've finally decided upon my "Photography Reboot Gear."
Happy Snappin'!

absolutely nothing wrong with switching to a K-50 - it's a dynamite camera!

If the lenses are good, they're probably worth playing with on your K50. Congratulations, that's a camera which will last a long while.

Otherwise, students might be interested in the Super Program, though usually photography classes prefer fully manual cameras to really teach the basics.
