Hello from Brazil

Hello, pentaxians friends.

I live in Brazil and I am passionate about photography and bird watching. Just buy a pentax k-3 and I'm not sure of the lens that I use to photograph birds and other animals and would like to know what lens you suggest me: Pentax 300mm f / 4 or Pentax 60-250mm f / 4?

The guidelines you will be very welcome

Thank you

For bird watching the 300mm f/4 is more useful, with birds often you're never close enough and the +50mm makes a difference.

Both are great lenses, but from what I've seen the 300mm has greater magnification than the 250mm end of the zoom.
I don't have either, just the 55-300 so this is just from my own research - I'd like to get the 300mm, and should start saving my money to buy one.

Welcome aboard!

Like TER-OR I have only the 55-300, but for birds I would definitely go for the 300, and probably the HD DA 1.4x converter in addition. I believe the converter works well with the 60-250 as well, but would still take the 300 given the choice.

And welcome to our part of the Web!

Hi Alvaro,
I think for bird watching the longer 300mm may be better, especially considering the greater magnification mentioned TER-OR. I recommend you read the reviews of both lenses here on the forum (see section Lenses > Pentax Lens Reviews). If not the 300mm, maybe you could also consider a 200-300mm + teleconverter.
Anyway, both are excellent lenses and are DA*, which means they are not only the top line, but also weather sealed.
I don't have either, but I do have a basic Tamron 70-300mm, which is ok for birds, but sometimes difficult to get the focus, and is also shows a lot of purple fringing. Since you are considering the DA*'s, I guess you are not on a budget and this one is definetely out of the question.
Where are you from? I am also from Brazil, from Catalao, GO, but currently living in Jundiai, SP.
Seja bem-vindo ao forum!
Abraço,
Alexandre

Welcome to PF and bonjour from France, Alvaro Fraga ... I have the 55-300, too, and a prime would be better IMHO. Hope to see some images soon! Salut, J

Thanks guys for the guidelines. I was opting for the 300mm f / 4 and also the purchase of 1.4x teleconverter. I'm migrating from Canon to Pentax for a dream come true, because I learned to shoot on a Pentax k1000 when I was a teenager. I know a lens 300mmm f / 4 works well with a teleconverter. I'm selling my Canon 300mm f / 4 and buy a Pentax 300mm f / 4. Again, thanks for the suggestions.
