Hi Pentax Gang

Hi
Shawn here,from Ontario Canada.
In searching for the latest on digital SLRs,I found this site.

My first Pentax was an SL model(still have it) ,and a handheld lightmeter.
Next I got an ME Super,and added a 35-105 Pentax A lens.

I have not used them in years, but I would like to move away from point and shoot compacts, and back to an SLR.

I have been looking at the K50 and K500.

Lots of info here.
Thanks-Shawn

If you need weather sealing and to know what autofocus point the camera has selected, get the K-50; otherwise get the K-500. Welcome to PF!

If you can find a good deal on a k-30, that's also worth a look (it is basically identical to the k-50)

Welcome Shawn. Either K-30 or K-50 is a better buy than the K-500. The extra features are well worth it.

The A35-105 seems like a good lens too:

I agree with Des. A K-30/K-50 will be a better long term investment

On the K-30, K-50, K-500 question, see this recent thread: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/151-pentax-k-30-k-50/259215-k30-k50-k500-...ur-advice.html

As between the K-30 and K-50, the choice might depend on what sort of deal you can get. There have been a number of attractive package deals on K-50s recently (with DA 35, DA 50 and/or DA 18-135 WR) that might work out better value than buying say a refurbished K-30 body and getting other lenses separately. On the other hand if the only lenses available in a package deal were 18-55 and 50-200, I would consider getting a body only (K-30 or K-50) and buying lenses separately, or looking for someone selling a K-30 or K-50 in the PF marketplace with your preferred lens(es). Better zoom lens options would include Sigma 17-70, 18-200 or 18-250, Pentax 16-50 or 18-135 WR, Pentax/Tamron 18-250, Tamron 17-50 and Pentax 55-300, depending on your budget and preferred use. Or develop a prime-based kit. It is worth giving some thought at the outset to the sort of kit you would like.
