Pentax K30 Random Under Exposure

Hi Everyone
I recently joined this forum not as a Pentax user but because around 18 months ago I bought my daughter a Pentax K30 as a present. Just after the warranty ran out the camera developed a problem with random under exposure, after speaking to the Pentax technical helpline I was advised that as I was in Europe the K30 was still under warranty and that I should take it back to Jessops (were I first bought the camera). I did this and the camera was sent away for repair, after waiting six weeks I called in Jessops to enquire about progress so they agreed to chase it up with the Pentax agent who then responded saying that the camera only had a twelve month Warranty and the "estimated" cost of repair would be £287.29! from reading the forum quite a lot of people have had similar problems with this camera and it would appear to have been discontinued which begs the question was the camera flawed right from the outset in which case it was not fit for purpose.

I would be interested in any feedback from anyone else having problems with Pentax and in particular the K30

Thanks

Herdie

Welcome!

I can't really say I have had any problems at all with my cameras so can't comment much there. But I do question their warranty period claim. That is, I'm sure they're right about the warranty period being 12 months, but if things are in UK as they are in several other European countries there is customer protection laws stating a protection period of at least 2 years. If this is indeed the rule in UK as well you shouldn't accept their "offer". It might be retailer's task to fulfil that law, though, not Pentax, so it could be you have to lay the claim at Jessop's door.

Anyway, good luck!
