Hi, I have been going through some of the groups and noted in the Aviation group some articles about Wings over Illawarra, I have uploaded these photos taken at the 2010 show, they are only a few of the many shots done on the day, hope you all enjoy them. I also have an upload on You tube of the Catalina doing touch and go (peejay664) if you would like to see it.

Interesting shots, I have only one suggestion you may wish to experiment with. For shots of planes with props try a slower shutter speed around the 1/125 mark, as it allows a little motion blur in the prop.

Failing that... there's always spin blur in filters of PS CC 2104.

Welcome from another Aussie.

A recent PF in-depth review of the 55-300 compared it with the 60-250.
Review: HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm F4-5.8 ED WR - Introduction | PentaxForums.com Reviews
Of course the 60-250 produced better IQ by almost every measure. Whether it is worth the extra grand is something you need to decide.

The 55-300 outperformed the 60-250 for autofocus on a moving target. (Might be relevant for your airshows.)

Another consideration is weight. The lighter the lens, the more often you are likely to use it.
