Hi from Calgary

I always wanted to try taking cool photos ,and had a mostly point and shoot Kodak Z-710. I ordered a zoom lens and Macro with 0.45x wide angle plus three filters all for around $70.00. It worked great on the Kodak So I thought I'd step up and buy a real SLR Pentax K-30 camera with my accumulated airmiles points. My Pentax came with a 270 page user manual, I'm slowly learning , but am going to need your help.
Anyways Hi, I live in Calgary and do quite a bit of mountain hiking/scrambling and some river rafting, plus I like riding my Harley. I take my camera everywhere I go,and take loads of photos.
I'm finally retired and able to do the things I want.

Welcome aboard!

Easy advice: TAv mode - front wheel is shutter speed, rear is aperture. Set your aperture in the mid range for most use - around f8 and then adjust your shutter speed to keep the ISO in a comfortable range. It will become second nature before long. Personally for most of my work I use the center focus point and center-weighted metering. If doing landscapes that often changes to matrix metering.

Welcome to the forum... you've got questions we've got answers, or at least debate about what the answer should be.
