Entering the foray

Hi all. I just received my new Pentax K-50 kit, with the (seemingly limited) color matched 18-55 DAL WR lens.

Still learning about the features, but after toying with it for a couple days it seems obvious I need a better prime lens than the kit lens it came with. I want something from the WR line but I want something on a budget. Still shopping! Ordered a camera bag I think will be big enough to hold the camera w/ prime lens and another couple lenses + accessories.

In the meantime, I've downloaded some of Bryan Peterson's books to point me (har har) in the right direction.

Lens, accessory, and use advice welcome!

And for the amused, I snapped the above picture with my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phone, and then ran it through standard Samsung filters.

Welcome to these forums! That sure is a stylish beaut.

The most budget you could get would be the 35mm f2.4 and 50mm f1.8 but sadly neither of them is WR. If you can do without they are surely worth looking into, as you won't get comparable quality for a better price. I'm not sure what WR primes would qualify, but there's enough reviews to look into.

Welcome! That red reminds me of Schumacher's Ferrari. That can't be a bad thing, I think!

Lenses: for a minimum investment right now you can get both the DA 35 2.4 and the DA 50 1.8 for less than 300 dollars, shipped. These are lenses you won't outgrow.

Then start saving your pennies because you'll be addicted to glass and there's a lot of even higher quality glass to be had...
