What is this on my lens

It is on the rear element. Tried to clean it with no success. Is it scratches or fungus? Help please.

Looks like sever scratching. Is the rear element protruding out of the mount?

Not protruding. It is a 28A f2.8 Pentax. Can't feel it with your fingernail.

If you can't feel it with fingernail, then its fungus inside one of the inner elements, probably near the back of the lens. It will need professional cleaning as such fungi growth can affect image quality badly, by producing flare and reducing contrast too much.

I think that it looks like fungus. If you cant feel any scratches, then it's gotta be fungus. The longer you wait, the more potential damage to any coatings on the lenses.

The fungus I am familiar with is usually more organic looking like tree branches. That does look like scrapes but I have been wrong before. Actually on a regular basis I am mistaken.

looks like scratches to me too. I have a couple of Super Tak 50mm like this and with that degree of scratching the IQ is adversely impacted (especially on the rear element).

If it is a A28/2.8 then consider buying another - they are inexpensive and probably cost you less than an appraisal/ clean/ repair.

To clarify, could be scratching in the coating only. Such scratches are very shallow and don't generally pass the feel test. If they are really shallow then IQ impacts are lessened, but there will be some impact.

I'm in the "looks like fungus to me" camp.

Well, fungus is better news than scratching that sever.
