Hello,

First post so be gentle with me !

Just registered to make an offer to buy a lens, but used to use Pentax in the film days, and recently returned to a DSLR for Astrophotography and pictures of my young son. Having more luck with the latter than the former, but hoping a 50mm f1.4 prime will help.

Wish me luck

Ian.

Welcome, and good luck on the lens. In the long run the latter is likely more important than the former, but have fun with camera and subjects, and I know there will be lots of assistance given and found on the Forum.

Welcome aboard. I'm starting into astrophotography too with my daughter and am learning that I have a LOT to learn.

Here are some resources I am finding useful:

Anyone know why I can't post pictures in this thread?

Oops . Must be a time lag issue please ignore the posting in two threads

Unfortunately, I don't recall what kit I used for this but I suspect it was my K-30, with the kit 18-55 mm lens, and O-GPS1 . Whilst I have done some stacking and post processing on some shots, I think there was minimal processing involved on this one :

I've always been fascinated by astro photography shots. Is there a chance long exposure shots can fry a digital camera sensor over time?

I'm sure they'll not last as long as if they were less used, particularly if the ISO is turned right up so it will get hotter. The other impact is probably the number of shutter actuations. A long exposure built from a lot of stacked images can result in hundreds of actuations. I'm now going to piggyback on my tracked scope to reduce the latter.
