New from Chicago area

Greetings all.

I'm a new Pentax dSLR owner. I browsed this forum quite a bit while I agonized over what to buy. Thanks for everyone's input. It made the decision easier.

Just got a K100D kit + 50-200 + AF360 flash a couple of days ago.
Not much chance to try it out yet - work keeps interfering with my hobbies.
Was hoping to get outside to take some shot this weekend but it's going to be really cold, so I'll have to figure out something inside instead.

Started with a Spotmatic II in high school in the 70s and migrated to an ME Super in the 80s. Then pretty much let it slide for a long time. Digital got me interested again and I used an Olympus 5060 Wide zoom to get my feet wet. That camera gave up the ghost and I got a Canon SD700 IS Digital Elph. This is a pretty sweet 6MP pocketable with image stabilization that will now be the backup to the K100D.

Looking forward to continual learning through forum participation.

Bruce Dawson

Welcome!

If you still have those "ghosts" in your closet, blow the dust off their lenses. You'll be surprised to see that they can be used on the K100 as well!

I borrowed a SMC K-series 55 mm f/2 and a 135 mm f/2.8 Gemini macro from a friend - the old glass (older than me, I think!) really surprised me on Saturday night.

Hope to see some shots soon!

I also have a 55mm f/2 plus a 28mm f/2.8 that may find some use on the K100D.
Also a Vivitar Series 1 70-210 that I'll probably sell since the 50-200 covers that range pretty well.

Just waiting now for the frigid weather ro break so I can get out there and play!

you a north or south sider?

Perhaps we Chicago area folks can get together and go on a shooting spree.
I wouldn't mind trying out that 50-200mm of yours.

Southwest suburbs - Orland Park.

I vote we wait until the temp gets at least into the 20's. I was walking the dog yesterday and my eyes almost froze shut!

You have a 55mm f/2? Nice! I was just toying with that lens this past weekend! Great gem you've got there. I'm thinking of buying one for myself!

I'd try your Vivitar too before selling it. I'm sure you'll find it almost as good as the 50-200 and you won't spend a thing! The only thing against the VS1 is the MF. *psst - of course...if you are selling please msg. me first and I'll scrap some cash together for it* lol. (argh LBA setting in again...)
