Hello from North Carolina

Just jumping into the Pentax waters. Learned photography on Nikon film......went with Canon digital. Sold out and went to Fuji. Loved everything about the Fuji except the poor focus (X-pro 1) and the lousy camera interface. (don't like menu diving!!) So now I am here with Pentax and the K-3 which I just took possession of a couple weeks ago.
Still learning it but wow I love the instinctive feel of it so far. I am sure I will learn a lot from this forum. I plan to lurk for a while and take things in.... Nothing taste worse than one's foot planted firmly in mouth!

Welcome, from just down the interstate. I hope Pentax meets all of your major needs. What lens(es) do you have to pair with the K-3?

Welcome to the clubhouse, I'm sure you'll like the Pentax system.

As far as lens go, I have the 18-135 as I could not turn down the kit price at B&H! (not a bad lens as it turns out...) I also picked up the DA 35mm 2.8 Limited and the Sigma 17-50mm 2.8. I have my eye on a longer Macro lens..... Not sure between the 100mm Pentax or other brands. I had the Canon 100mm macro and I'm afraid that lens spoiled me. I would like to think the Pentax would be that sharp. If indeed it is I will order it very soon........... Lastly I ordered (they are on back-order at BH) a Lensbaby Composer Sweet 50 just for fun. I was thinking I would sell the 18-135mm but after handling it....I might hold onto it for a little while.

You'll find no end of threads about choosing macro lenses. The Pentax 100 f2.8 lenses from any series are great, the Tamron 90 is also well-regarded.

That 18-135 is nice, the motor focus is quick and silent, it seems to track motion well, and it's weather resistant. Keep it even if you get better lenses, it likely will have a place.

The Pentax 100 will spoil you as well. Cheaper options include the Tamron 90 macro, I have a Sigma 70 macro, and Sigma also have their 105 macro, but the last two are discontinued. They're all amazing lenses. It would seem to be really hard to make a bad lens in that focal length. The Pentax has the best build and is water resistant, accounting for much of the extra cost.
