From the land of the midnight sun

Hi earthlings

Just recently bought my first DSLR, a used K-30 kit, which rapidly led me to the Pentax forum.
The detailed information and reviews here has been tremendously helpful.

I'm really looking forward to reading and (hopefully) learning from all you skilled folks.

My main interest are fauna and flora, specifically herptiles (reptiles & amphibians) and dragon- and
butterflies. Flowers of all kind and landscapes (which is my Achilles' heal).

For my first season I decided to start slow, gear-vice, and try to watch, read and learn. Especially
here on Pentax forum. For my K-30 I've added (for some reason I like the colours of "old" lenses better):
* SMC Pentax-M 50mm F1.7
* Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 AF XR Di LD Macro SP
* Tamron Adaptall 105mm f/2.5 (CT-105)

Hopefully they shows out to be good companions when spring arrives and everything comes to life again.
Until then I'll train on, well, snow. And even more snow.

Thanks - Stefan Jr

My first evening try-out at the periphery of my little hometown, K-30 and Tamron 28-75:

Thanks to you all!
Really.

JayBee451,

To start with I'll stay in the background and learn. The pictures here is way ahead of me.

flaviopetrone,
If you like snow and freezing temps in the winter, and mosquitoes in the summer, then Sweden is certainly worth a visit.

Welcome...I too have an affinity for reptiles and amphibians. Do yourself a favor and pick up a good 100mm macro. I have and love the Vivitar series 1. There may still be one for sale on the forum. I remember seeing it pop up last week.

I love snow and cold.
I hate mosquitoes but I doubt that there you have more mosquitoes than here, in the middle of the Po Valley (Italy).

Indy,
Thanks! Eventually - I (hopefully) will. First I'll try my wing and see if I'm capable of flying.
If so, a macro lens is certainly top rated on wish list.

flaviopetrone,
In that case - you'll probably love Sweden. Love Italy - cruised it twice.

Welcome, Stefan!

For inspiration in nature photography (including landscapes), you might have a look at Eddie Soloway's photography.

Eddie Soloway Photography

When I first started using a DSLR, I benefited a lot from taking a short hands-on photography course. After that, I learned a lot from taking some online classes. I've taken about half a dozen courses through bpsop.com. It's flexible (download a lesson on Friday, with courses starting on the first Friday of every month and then you've got about 9 days to complete the assignment), there is a mix of students from different places, and you can interact with the teacher and the students (and benefit from the teacher's critique for your images and other students' images) through the online forum.

CSA,
Thanks! Yes - most certainly, I did got carried away pretty much immediately. But luckily realised that what I need is knowledge, not "things".
Intriguing new world indeed. Restrains necessary.

Frogoutofwater,
Thanks you. That is great information! I will certainly consider it, undoubtedly I need it. "The big picture" don't come naturally for me, itty bitty
things do. So, tutoring would really help a lot.

Jack002,
Your too kind.

Welcome to the forum, your lucky that there's much fine older glass out there for when you do decide you need other lenses.

Kerrowdown,
Thanks. Initially, the lack of auto focus didn't appeal. I was wrong, in "stationary" situations manual focus it's great fun.
