Been lurking for a few weeks here and figured it's time to become part of the community.
Back in the day I was a dedicated K1000 guy, buddying up with a either a Minolta and a Canon friend at least once a week for photo shoots throughout the Central Florida area. My Minolta friend moved off after a couple of years and my Canon friend got married and lost interest. I suppose I did the same, getting married, starting a couple of businesses and having kids. Making time for it just wasn't a priority. Then came a recent bout with cancer and I realized I had stopped doing some of the things I had enjoyed most and how much I missed them. One is photography.
So here I am with a new K-50, learning the ropes all over again and thoroughly enjoying it!! I think I've reassembled a pretty good selection of beginner lenses while keeping the investment reasonable:
The stock kit 18-55WR (not impressed but it's waterproof)
A pristine Sigma 70-300 F4-5.6
A near perfect leftover Pentax F 35-70 3.5-4.5
barely-used Pentax 21mm F3.2 Limited
A leftover Kenko 2x APK Teleplus
... and a really hard-to-find and well-regarded lens I'll mention next week if everything works out.
Total out-of-pocket so far for the lenses (except the kit lens) is less than $400 so I consider myself really fortunate. Someone is smiling on me after a few months I'd just as soon forget about.
So I'm really looking forward to learning it all again with the help of you knowledgeable folks here. I've really picked up a lot of good advise before even joining and hope it won't be too long before I can contribute back to your forum.
