Welcome, having been to Charlotte once, you should have lots of amazing photo ops in close proximity. It's a great area to have a camera.

From a Raleigh native now living in Salisbury, welcome to NC. If by "western" you mean in the mountains, then you are surrounded by photo opportunities. Don't know how that compares to your Mass. existence, but it will be a much more tolerable climate.

Howdy - Fort Bragg over here.

I envy you being in the mountains. The Sandhills are a bit anticlimactic for this hiker

Well I got down there driving down the Blue Ridge parkway, and then through Cherokee.

I lived in ME for a time. Burnham to be exact and it was many moons ago, also. It's always great returning to ME, when it's not the season of the state bird, Black Fly season.

Know the Coastal Plain area of NC very well. Not the best place for hiking. The elevation gains are really easy to handle for the hikes you can find in the area, though.

Thanks for all the welcomes. If anyone ever gets out this way, let me know. I'd be happy to help point you to some areas that I have found to be good for photo opportunities and hikes.

Burnham is... local. VERY local. I married a girl from Freedom, and I'm currently living in Waterville.

Yes it is very local. I had family in Sidney and Brunswick too. You live in a great location.
