Ks1 over qs1. Q lacks an optical viewfinder, the LCD can be harder to see in daylight.

That will depend entirely on the lens you buy for either choice of camera.
Q-S1 is compact and light. Cheaper to buy.
K-S1 is higher quality/resolution image and faster AF.

Low light/Night shooting again will depend on the lens you buy.

I agree with Steve. Keep in mind that though both cameras give the photographer a lot of control over the camera and images, the two camera belong in different leagues. Hugely different leagues. I have a Q-S1 in addition to multiple APSC Pentax cameras, and IMO, the Q cameras are basically really fun and versatile point-and-shoot cameras. A dslr on the other hand, can produce images the Q cannot. The K-S1 will be way better in low light, better for cropping, less noise, better bokeh, more normal focal length options, better macro, better lcd, and better battery life. But all that comes at a higher price.

Neither the Q-S1 nor the K-S1 are weather sealed. The K-S2 is and only slightly larger than the K-S1. However none of them are as rugged as the WG-2.

Maybe consider the k50 - prices on that model are really good right now and it takes excellent photos. Should be able to get the k50 with 18-55wr and 50-200wr for around $500 and that is for a weather resistant camera and lenses!

I think by your desires you're going to want a DSLR. Fast capture requires that mirror for the most part, continuous focus and metering and no lag between exposures. The KS-1 has some cool features, but if you want rugged then look for the K50, K30 or one of the flagship models like a K5II.

It's a big step up, and you'll need to grow into the DSLR world by really learning how to control the camera. It's not hard though, just a fair amount to remember and control. The camera will do as much as you allow it to - and that's the key.

I would recommend you look for a used camera and lens, that will save some money. You can get a K30 or K50 with an 18-135 lens for a great price now. That lens is motorized for smooth and fast focus, you won't be disappointed. It gives enough zoom for most uses, though for wildlife like birds you'll want longer. Save that for later, though, go one step at a time.
