Baffled: Pentax MX-01 vs. K-3. A valid :P comparison

Hello from Germany, Pentaxians, I'm new here

I have no Pentax DSLR yet so I did a lot of research:

'Lovely little Pentax MX-1 - regarding shutter speed - is only rivaled by the Pentax K-3 (both 1/8000s).
and the number focus points are only surpassed again by the K-3 (25 vs 27).

I compared all Pentaxes, all of the, and the MX-1 is the only one coming close to K-3 in those regards,
isn't that insane?

I think I need one. It's also the cheapest fast macro "on" a digital Pentax I'll ever get!!!*

sure the MX-1 would compare well in terms of content of metal as well.
Anyway, welcome to the forum!

Does the MX-1 have a mechanical shutter? (Even if it does, I'm sure it is not using it at 1/8000s.) So that means you're getting a rolling shutter, which is kinda-sorta the speed it says it is, but not really... (Read about rolling shutters.)

MX-1 has mechanical shutter. It also has electronic shutter. With the Electronic shutter (if you enable it), you expand from 2000 to 8000.

Yes, read about, thanks. Also watched a lot of sample videos. Pentax' image quality is so outstanding, it's a shame they don't capture movement that well. I'm hoping the K-S2 will be better finally, we will see.

The Pentax (whichever) will be my first dslr, still shooting on Canon Elan 7e.

If you mean don't capture movement that well "because of the rolling shutter", then the same applies to just about any non-DSLR (or high-end mirrorless) of any brand at high shutter speeds. They all have electronic (rolling) shutters...

by non-DSLR you mean the absence of global shutter?

He means a mirrorless camera. Most cameras in that class use a non-mechanical shutter to attain higher speeds.

Welcome to the forum, I'll be the first to admit that I know nothing of the technical merits of the cameras your discussing, but there are lots of other clever folk here that do.

I just ordered my mx-1 for just 220 bucks.
Found used camera store also were I could have gotten myself a Pentax K II with that 18-130mm WR lens,
but I passed. 850 bucks would have been a great deal but I think I want the K-3 rather and wait for lower price
till the Pentax Full Frame hits the market.
In the meantime I will alternate between the MX and my analogue SLR.

Who would have thought I downgrade to a compact? Eager to make the experience
