Hello from WNY

Figured I should post an intro.
I have had a K10D with kit lens and a M-50 smc and 135 2.8 focal. Went with Pentax for the weather sealing and it works with my dads old 50 and 135

Recently upgraded to K5iis with 35DA F2.4. I am looking to build a collection of a couple of primes and a every day WR lens. Looking at just the basic 18-55 but the 18-135 caught my eye. also want a long zoom. But good telephoto glass is expensive. right now the 50-200wr has me interested for the price but might go right to the 55-300WR. Also would love an ultra wide. 15 f4 looks awesome but I have shied away because the bower 14mm 2.8 is faster for milkyway photos.

i edit everything in RawTherepee. Anyone else here use this? If you haven't its pretty awesome for FREE.

Anyway great fourm tanks for having me. Love the lens database and all the reviews and sample photos. I am trying not to get caught up in specs and just learn how to shoot. so far so good.

thanks
Jake

Well, I would have to assume WNY is Western New York. Could be Rochester, could be Buffalo...

CNY is Central New York. Or as the NY Post has described it, the new Bangalore.

Welcome aboard! The 18-135 is nice for walkaround when you don't know what you'll see or what weather you'll get.
I replaced a broken 55-300 with the new WR version, also a bit of insurance vs. weather. But I think it has a calibration issue, I should send it in but for now have dialed in +8 to counter backfocus. For the money, the 55-300 is good.

WNY = western Ny state near Buffalo. Looking for a lens to have for the Niagara air show. any thoughts? was thinking the 50-200 and maybe the 15/F4.

New to me Pentax-A 50/1.7. Nothing like pictures of weeds

One of my attempts at Orion nebula with focal 135/2.8. Working putting camera on cheep equatorial mount for longer time exposures with slower/sharper glass. wish me luck.

Pentax da 18-55.

The 55-300 is a great starter telezoom. Much better than the 50-200 IMO. If you don't need WR the DA L version can be found for less than $200. Pair it with an 18-135, under $300 now, and you have all the kit you need for walking around.

That's what i was thinking. How is the 18-55 vs 18-135 in your opinion? I know there would probably be a thread about it. But just wanted to see your thoughts.

I only own the 18-55. I have a 35-135 and a 28-105 so the 18-135 never appealed to me. The 18-135 is generally considered to be better than the 18-55 on the forums.

Well, those of us who live in New York are somewhat embarrassed to live here. So we talk in code. It is a beautiful state with the most corrupt and disfunctional state government in the nation. Plus we are additionally blessed to be the highest taxed people in the country. I think that these two facts are somewhat related.

Geographically it is an awesome place to live. Great natural beauty too.

FWIW, I live near Rochester, NY and actually work for Kodak.

jalmeter29 - Welcome aboard.
