Hello Pentax 6x7 owner from Oklahoma

Just joined the forums. I am a pro editorial and commercial photographer from Oklahoma City area. I have shot a wide variety of camera systems over the years. Mostly Nikon digital gear for client work. I have shot plenty of film cameras over the years, including Mamiya RZ-67 and 645, Hassleblad, and several different 4x5 view cameras.

I started with Pentax 6x7 a little over a year ago. I was in a used camera store and the dealer handed me a Pentax 6x7 with a 165 F4 lens. I was SOLD! Instantly. That lens was the bees knees for me. I now love the Pentax 6x7 and feel it is the best medium format camera system I have used. I wish I had discovered it 20 years ago!

I now have 2 Pentax 6x7's and three lenses and looking to add to my lens collection. Right now I shoot my Pentax for personal work, mostly black and white. I do my own film developing and scanning. I also shot a lot of 4x5 black and white work. I shoot Nikon digital almost daily for magazines, but am hoping to incorporate some Pentax 6x7 work into the mix.

Thanks for having me on the forums! I look forward to learning more about the system.

Those sure are nice cameras. I think about getting one now and then, but it's one more hobby for the time I don't have.

I'd sure like to have an L-plate type grip with attractive wooden handle like the old medium formats for my K5. Perhaps with a flash mount up top?

Welcome to the forum, back in their day these were the only real camera to use, many pros produced superb imagery with them.

Two Pentax 6x7s!? Now that must be a load to carry...
Despite its bulk and weight, I too can also speak highly of the SMCP 165 f4 LS; but I speak even higher of several other SMCP lenses!

Always interested in hearing about other lenses. I have a 45 and 300 on the way. One reason I really like the Pentax 6x7 is that it hasn't been "discovered" yet by hipster film folks, hence the prices are unbelievably low for some great equipment. Can anyone say "Contax"? Geez. Those prices are crazy expensive.

The main reason I have two Pentax 6x7 is because a guy was selling a lens I wanted with a camera - 105 f2.4. HIs price was so reasonable I just bought the camera and lens together as a combo and felt I got the camera for about $125. That gives me a backup in case I have trouble with my primary camera. I also shoot in a lot of crazy, nasty conditions - dust, dirt, wind - so I can mount two lenses and not have to change lenses mid-shoot.

Ever shot a top fuel drag race up close and personal? Nitro-methane raining on your head, burnt rubber smoke wafting through the air, and melted rubber pelting you and your camera. Earplugs are mandatory! No changing lenses in that environment.
