Hello my friends, PPD From Southern California.

Hello My Friends,

PPD here, Dave is my name. I 'stumbled across this site while doing a web research on Pentax DSL Cameras. I have been in the market for a little bit now, which translates into late hours on-line doing lots of reading.LOL

As a child I always wanted to buy a camera and take pictures and make photography a hobbie. It happen for a little while, but then came Girls and all the other 'Crazythings' a young lad gets into.
Even as an young adult I tried to into back into photography but got my 35mm camera stolen and lost interest, but mostly because CamCorders came on the scene.
Now I've reached middleage years and photography has once again peaked my interest. My Mother-In-Law has been taking classes and going abroad with her class to take pictures in other countries while enjoying the scenery.
Must be Nice, eh? She shoots a Nikon D something and is looking for an upgrade.

I first was set on purchasing a Nikon d80 but an employee with RitzCamera showed me and asked if I considered PENTAX. I said, hum, and took a hold of the K10D and Love the 'Feel' of it, especially the weight and grip. I also loved the way it focused. Felt like I was getting more for my money. [chucke]

After doing some reading on the K10D and becoming very interested in what I was reading I decided to go with PENTAX. The only problem was, I started reading about the K20Dand liked even more!

I first asked my wife's permission to buy the K20D before moving down in cost for the K10D. She said Yes,(atleast thats what I thought she said...hehe) but at a cost, I had to make a deal with her, to go on a small visit to the GrandCanyon with the kids. Yeah, she said, maybe you might find something to take a picture of. I've never been there.

So, I don't know if, at this time, I will be able to contribute any camera wisdom with you, however, I'm a Good Listener.

I've seen some of the pictures some of you have taken and they are 'unbelievableFabulous'!!!

Thanks for letting me be a part of you all and to sit at your feet for some Pentax Camera Knowledge!

Peace and Love...
Dave

Welcome, Dave. I'm in Long Beach :-)

One thing about the Grand Canyon - NEVER walk around while framing a shot or focusing through the camera. Seriously. They lose a tourist or two over the edge every year...

Welcome Dave.

I hear your state is short on water. I'm pretty sure my state of Wisconsin could spare some so far this spring.

Welcome Dave. Congrats on the camera. You'll have a great time with it. You might find a thing or two to photograph at the Grand Canyon too .

I used to fly tourists into the west end of the Canyon in helicopters, and while we never lost one over any cliffs (that I noticed), we did have them walk backward into cactus quite a bit while framing their shots. Cactus (and cliffs) will definitely teach one to get out of the viewfinder to move about.

We'll take it! Please. Seriously, the creek behind my house should not run dry until September or October...It's dry today.
