Hi! K-S1 (+kit lens +€200 store certificate) @ €345. To buy or not to buy?

Hi everyone.

I had been a Pentax owner for 5 years now, having K-7 and a few lens: 15/4, 35/2.4, 70/2.4, and 50-135/2.8. Not to mention M50/1.7 and 18-55.
I had been considering replacing my K-7 with some newer body, such as K-3 or K-S2, but the deal in local shop came up that seems hard to pass by, pushing plans for moee serious body to a later stage.
My question is - would it be worth to replace K-7 with K-S1? I am mostly shooting kids, hence high ISO and AF are important. Other areas are nature and street photography.

I would appreciate your comments on such move.

I think you would miss the K-7's handling and button layout. The K-50 would be a better upgrade path, or the K-5/K-5 II, if you can find one at a similar price (you should be able to). Then again, effectively paying 145 Euros for a K-S1 sounds like a steal...

Well, if you use your prime lenses the K-S1 should be fine. However handling with your DA*50-135mm will be compromised. This would seem a bit of a shame for such a great lens.

I disagree with Adam a bit here. I think the K-S1 is a lot more capable of good IQ than the K5, and I own both. However, the K-S1 seems even slower than the K5 when saving shots to the SD card.

I must admit that my recent purchase history includes buying a K-S1 about 3 months ago, loving the results but hating its slowness, then finally cracking and buying a K-3 three days ago. In the OP's situation I would either buy a K5II or IIS, or invest in a K-3 (NOT K-3II) as soon as I could afford it.

seriously, get it while you can. if you don't like it, you can still sell it at a higher price than what you paid for !!

Apparently guys at the shop felt a mistake made, and when I showed up for purchase, gift certificate was gone, from the site as well.
So much for a try...

I actually would've bought K-S1 just for the sake of renewing camera body essentially for free (would try to sell K-7 for at least €150), despite the ugly shutter sound.

Now the obstacles are gone to go all the way and purchase K-3, which looks like a better option than the newer K-3II (with all its issues as of late).

Thank you for all your advises!

I think if its slow saving to SD card you need to have a 95mb/s card. I have a K3 and any slower than 95 Mb/s if you shoot raw and the camera slows.

Why would the handling with this lens be compromised? Size and weight vs the body?
